Zetron’s Acom Will Connect to SMARTNET System Through EFJohnson Radios

The Zetron Advanced Communication (Acom) System chosen to equip a new, state-of-the-art communication center for Deschutes County 9-1-1 in Bend, Oregon, has passed its factory acceptance testing and is now ready for system optimization. The solution will be P25 capable, highly interoperable, and able to adapt to new radio technologies as they evolve. It will also utilize Zetron’s iRIM with EFJohnson radios to access the county’s SMARTNET system.

Redmond, Washington, U.S.A. – June 30, 2010 – Zetron, a leading provider of mission-critical communications solutions, announced that its Advanced Communications System (Acom), chosen as the centerpiece of a new, state-of-the-art communication center being constructed for Deschutes County 9-1-1 in Bend, Oregon, has passed factory acceptance testing. It now moves on to the next phase, system optimization. The solution will employ Zetron’s Intelligent Radio Interface Module (iRIM) and EFJohnson radios to access the county’s Motorola SMARTNET trunking system. It will also be P25 capable and interoperable with a wide range of radios. The system will go live when the center opens in mid-August, 2010.

Preparing for tomorrow… and the next day
"We chose Zetron’s Acom for its functionality, flexibility and cost," says Deschutes Public Safety Systems Manager, Rick Silbaugh. "We wanted a system that would work with a broad array of legacy systems and adapt to new and evolving radio technologies. And Acom is radio-system agnostic, so it doesn’t restrict us to certain radio systems or prevent us from using other radios; I can interface with everybody. Acom is also IP based, adaptable over time, and does the best job of preparing us for what’s going to happen tomorrow and the next day."

Accessing SMARTNET
Silbaugh says that another key benefit of the solution is its ability to utilize Zetron’s iRIM with EFJohnson radios to connect to the county’s Motorola SMARTNET system.

"EFJohnson is the only other radio besides Motorola that can access the SMARTNET system right now," he says. "And Zetron’s iRIM is the interface that makes that connection possible."
